These two scrubs combined only use a total of three ingredients; oil, white sugar and brown sugar. They are so so easy to make yet actually work pretty well as exfoliaters.
I remember a while back one of my friends said that she was told that you should never ever use sugar on your face. Now, years later, I decided to look into that. Using a quick google search what I found was that it’s not the sugar itself necessarily, it’s the texture which is said to create tiny microabrasions on the face. However, others argue that exfoliating actually encourages your skin to make more skin cells, giving you a fresher and younger look.
While I can’t say I know what to believe, I do feel that at the very least these scrubs will work for other parts of the body.
White Sugar Scrub (Less Abrasive)
I use this recipe on my face and my legs either before or after shaving, I have also used it on the back of my arms but I found it a little too rough for that skin. I prefer coconut oil for its anti-bacterial properties.
Ingredients
1/4 cup White Sugar
Approx. 1/4 cup Oil (Olive, Coconut, etc.)
Directions
- Add sugar to small bowl
- Gradually add in oil of choice, stirring as you go until mixture is a paste-like consistency
- Enjoy!
Brown Sugar Scrub (More Abrasive)
I use this recipe on my butt and the outer side of my hips, it really works well for the rougher skin. I also use coconut oil for this one.
Ingredients
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
Approx. 1/4 cup Oil (Olive, Coconut, etc.)
Directions
- Add sugar to small bowl
- Gradually add in oil of choice, stirring as you go until well incorporated
- Enjoy!
For both recipes I usually don’t drench them in oil because I like to add a little water in the shower. These are so simple that honestly there’s not much you can change, but I’d love to hear what you guys think of them.
As always, I hope everyone has a good week and let me know what I should try to make next!
good idea.
