The Madonna Inn, located in San Luis Obispo, is known for it’s unique and breathtaking rooms. From indoor waterfalls to Krazy Dazy wallpaper this place has a room for anybody and everybody.Madonna Inn is very unique in both its aesthetic appeal and history,” said Audrey Pearce, Assistant Marketing Manager at Madonna Inn (who also happens to be the granddaughter of Alex and Phyllis Madonna). “As a family-owned and operated business since 1958, the Madonna Inn has its roots in the Madonna Family’s Swiss-Italian heritage and culture.”The property has 110 rooms each with a specific theme, so that anyone can feel at home within a fantasy.
“Mr. Madonna used to love to joke about the fact that if he made every guest room different, he could never make the same mistake twice,” shares Pearce.
While the Madonna Inn has gone through various renovations and room updates, each room’s theme is kept consistent.“Some of our most popular rooms are our guest suites like Austrian Suite or Carin,” says Pearce. “(They) include private balconies and lots of space within the room.”
For traveler wishing to chronicle their trip with photos glitter walls can be very fun.
“Our rock rooms are also a huge favorite, most notably the Caveman room,” continues Pearce. “Which is entirely outfitted in large natural boulders – originally sourced by Mr. Madonna from the local hillsides.”She continues on to say that Madonna Inn’s unique décor draws on inspiration from Alpine, gingerbread influences and whimsical, celestial, fairytale charm, as well as its architectural elements drawn from California’s mining history, the local Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, wine country, and local agriculture.
“There is one room, called no-name, which is a guest room that is currently used for storage,” explains Pearce. “It is undetermined whether it will eventually be a usable guest room – only time will tell!”
Boutique shopping, wine and chocolate tasting, a 40-foot beach entry style heated pool with whirlpool Jacuzzis, luxury day spa, horseback trail rides, garden games, rentable beach cruiser bikes with bike paths, hiking trails, and hot pink and powder blue tennis and basketball courts are only some of the amenities, a full list can be found on their website.“There is really no one particular type of guest that Madonna Inn attracts,” she says. “Everyone seems to appreciate and celebrate Madonna Inn for whatever it means to them personally.”
The only consistency here seems to be that visitors usually feel that Madonna Inn is a tradition in their family.
“People typically come to Madonna Inn because it brings them memories of their childhood, inspires them, or just makes them happy and cheerful,” concludes Pearce. “It makes us proud to know the Madonna Inn is a part of many people’s traditions, and we enjoy making people happy with what we offer through the décor, guest rooms, food, and amenities.”
